Carrie Mae Kuykendall Heatherly, 92, beloved matriarch of a large, devoted family
died March 2nd at the Baptist Home in Asheville, her home for the past fifteen years where she had ministered to other residents there. Her enduring faith was an inspiration to all who knew her. She lived a full and rich life that began in the first quarter of the last century and was witness to good times and bad times over nine decades that recorded some of the most momentous events in our country’s history. Her life was defined by her love for her family and her God.
This kind and gentle woman leaves a sprawling family of more than three score, including 10 children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren and their spouses and 25 great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
She was the wife of 61 years of the Rev. Wilson L. Heatherly who died in 2002.
She was pre-deceased by two children and a grandson.
She was born May 5, 1924 at East Fork Township, Haywood County, the daughter of the late Pleasant and Fannie Kuykendall.
She is survived by sons, Charles and wife, Evelyn, of Cary; Paul, and wife, Hazel, of Waynesville; Wilson and wife, Warleen, of Rutherfordton; Ralph and wife, Cheryl, of Forest City; daughters; Martha, and husband, Bruce Craig, of Black Mountain; Ruth, and husband, Austin Drum, of Apex; Carolyn, and husband, The Rev. Max Parris, of Belleville, Illinois; Patricia, and husband, Stanley Henson, of Forest City; Brenda Greene, of Mill Springs; Shirley, and husband, James Heatherly, of Burton, Virginia.

She was predeceased by son, Daniel Demos; daughter, Jesse Elizabeth; and grandson, Bruce Craig Jr..
Funeral services will be held 1PM Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Crowe’s Mortuary with Rev. Max Parris officiating. Burial will follow in Cane Creek Missionary Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Mortuary.
