Good People

The friendship between Tony and I began at the beginning of integrating the schools in this county.  Before the early 70's, Rutherford County schools were segregated, with an option to attend different schools.  In the early 70's, schools in Rutherford County were integrated for all public schools.  I began school at Spindale Elementary after attending Dunbar School.  At the beginning of my years in the white schools, I met some wonderful school mates.  Tony Godfrey was one of them.  He had a smile that one would know that his heart was kind.  He joked alot as classmates but he was one that you could count on.  We became friends in the 4th grade and it lasted all the way through high school.  Tony was Tony, a good guy to love and have fun with.  Being black, I cannot recall one time that Tony view and or saw me different, other than the color of my skin. We played together, cried together, loved together, and grew together.  He had love for everybody, whether  black or white.  I love that brother as a brother.  He showed love for everybody.  God's special people have this love inside of them.  Tony was one of God's special people.  When I saw the obituary in the paper, my heart just fell.  As the tear rose in my eye, I knew how special Tony was to me.  He will greatly missed.  As a sun set here on earth, a sun rise has begun in Heaven.  Love you Bro.  I can call you brother.
