Hazel Bridges Sims, age 87, of 142 Fernwood Circle Rutherfordton, passed away peacefully Thursday morning while being cared for at Hospice House in Forest City. Hazel was a native of Rutherford County, a member of First Baptist Church Rutherfordton where she was a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the Joy Group. She was formerly employed by Spindale Mills and was retired from Grindstaffs Interiors.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Andy (June) Sims of Forest City, daughter Donna (Keith) Baynard of Greenville, SC and Amy (Craig) Jenkins of Rutherfordton; brother Marshall (Kate) Bridges of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Glenn (Joyce) Bridges of Greenville, SC, grandchildren Andrew Jenkins, Jacob Jenkins, Kevin Baynard, and Sarah Bryant; greatgrandchildren Elias Jenkins, James Bryant, Caroline Bryant, Mackenzie Baynard and Luke Baynard.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Herman Sims, parents Jonas Wayne Bridges and Merle Bridges and sisters Ruth Sawyer and Jean McCracken.
A celebration of the life of Hazel Sims will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday January 5 at First Baptist Church Rutherfordton with the Rev. Tim Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Piedmont Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at Crowe’s Funeral Home Rutherfordton.
