Mr. Dana Fernando Smith age 49 of Bess Court passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 in Duncan, S.C. Dana was a Journeyman Class A Lineman currently employed by Sumter Utilities and had a career spanning some 30 years that included working with many of the areas power companies. He was bigger than life and was a loyal friend and mentor who took great pride in his job and the training of new linemen. Dana was especially proud of his family who he loved with all his heart. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Debbie Briscoe Smith, his ex-wife Judy Couch, special friend Susan Hamrick, mother Olga Dominguez Chaney, step father Tom Chaney, step mother Kay Smith-Silvers, son Kane Smith, son Adam Smith, stepson Ricky Pitman, stepson Tommy Pitman, stepson Joshua Lane, stepson Marcus Briscoe, stepdaughter Dallas Kirby, brother Shannon Smith, stepbrother James Chaney, stepsister Jackie James, stepsister Shanna Martin, stepsister Kristen Silvers, stepsister Alyssa Silvers, and a number of other special friends and relatives.
Dana was preceded in death by his father Elvis Larry Smith, and grandparents C.B. Smith, Elsie Johnson Smith, Adan Dominquez and Lillie Dominquez. A celebration of Dana’s life will be held 12 PM Monday, December 17, 2018 at Spencer Baptist Church 187 N. Oak Street Spindale, NC with Rev. Bruce Caldwell and Dr. Ray Broom officiating. Graveside services will follow at Gray’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery 751 Gray’s Creek Church Road Rutherfordton, NC 28139. The family will receive friends from 3 – 6 PM Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Crowe’s Mortuary 118 College Ave. Rutherfordton, NC 28139. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
