Drewey Landrum "D.L."  Simmons Jr.
Drewey Landrum “DL” Simmons Jr. was born in 1925 to Drewey Landrum Simmons Sr. and Mary Maude Simmons. D.L. was the husband of the late Roberta “Bertie” Kate Day Simmons. He served his country as a Marine during WWII, was a member of Spencer Baptist Church, retired from the railroad and later worked for the NC Highway Department.
DL went home to be with the Lord on February 23rd 2018, at Holly Springs Senior Citizens Home where he had lived for the last few years.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Debbie Simmons Carver (Steve) of Spindale; Granddaughter Sherry Hill (Darien) of Rutherfordton, Grandson Brian Keith Carver of Spindale; Great-grandchildren Dylan Hill, Caleb Hill, Cameron Hill, and Hallie Kate Hill.
In addition to his parents and wife D.L. was preceded in death by his siblings Virgil, Van, GE, and Odell Simmons, Selma Melton, May Ward, Lula Willis, Juanita Dobbins, and Ethel McCurry.
Services will be at 3:00PM on Sunday February 25th 2018 at Crowe’s Mortuary with Dr. Bruce Caldwell and Rev. Josh Calvert officiating, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private at Eternal Hills Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Veterans Honor Guard. Online condolences may be made at www.crowemortuary.com.
