Opal Tissia  Mathis
Opal Tissia Mathis, 86, of Forest City, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Fair Haven of Forest City. Born July 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Minter Hill Mathis and Millie Harmon Mathis. She was a lifelong member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and worked in textiles at Stonecutter, Spindale Mills, Fieldcrest and Cone Mills. After retiring she worked at Burger King for eight years and at Myrick’s Discount until it closed. Opal was a hard worker, enjoyed going to the flea market and was known for her good cooking.
She is survived by her son, Alan Mathis of Forest City; two sisters, Betty Joe Mathis Crook of Douglasville, GA and Joyce Mathis Wallace of Harris; two nephews, Wayne Mathis of Ellenboro and Marc Hammett of Atlanta, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Max L. Mathis.
At Opal’s request, there will be no formal services.
