Obituary for Edward Clay Harrill

Edward Clay Harrill
Forest City
Edward "Ed" Clay Harrill, age 90, of Forest City, NC husband of Christine Pope Harrill, passed away on December 19th 2017 at Hospice House. A native of Rutherford County, Ed was the son of the late Almeria Huntley Harrill and Henry Clay Harrill, a US Army veteran of WW II and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Ed was a retired painting contractor who loved his vegetable gardens both in Smokey Hollow in Spindale and Crestview Drive in Forest City where Christine would ‘put up’ by canning and freezing the bounty as well as supplying family and neighbors with the harvest. He helped many local leaders, mostly Democrats, in their election campaigns. He loved to ‘tease’ his friends and delighted in attaching nicknames to many! A sportsman, he played ball in Spindale and followed the Hilltoppers, Braves, Detroit Tigers, and Duke Blue Devils. In retirement, he enjoyed the gatherings for the ‘forums’ at the Spindale House.
In addition to his devoted wife Christine, he leaves to cherish his memory his son Jim (Robin) Harrill of Charlotte; daughter Terry (Don) Lovelace Mooresboro; brother David (Sarah Jo) Harrill of Ruth; step children Rita (Ricky) Jackson of Gaffney and Tammy (John) Buck of Grifton, NC; grandchildren Allen Shoenfelt, Laura Shoenfelt, Zach Harrill, and Abby Harrill; 8 step grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his brothers Clyde, Herman, Ray, and Robert; sisters Marjorie Morehead, Lillie Carpenter, Betty Yelton, and Evelyn Bruner.
Services will be held at 1 PM Friday December 22, 2017 at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev Tom Runyon and Rev. Matt Sparks officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-1 prior to the service. Burial will be in the Cool Springs Cemetery.
