Florence Carolyn Grayson, age 97, of 1110 Poor’s Ford Rd Rutherfordton, passed away on December 15th, 2017 at Oakland Living Center. She was born June 17th, 1920 in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, the daughter of J.S “Bill” Hoyle and Maude Huntley Hoyle.
Florence graduated from R-S Central High School, and was an inspector for Doncaster-Tanner for many years. She was a lifelong devout member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Robert Grayson, Sr. and two sisters, Hazel Hoyle and Evelyn Hoyle McDonald.
Survivors include her son, John Robert “Bob” Grayson, Jr. and his wife Sherry Kistler of Rutherfordton, her daughter, Tamara Amelia Grayson of Wilkesboro, and her nieces (who were like daughter to her) Elizabeth McDonald and Julie McDonald of Charlotte.
Florence is also survived by grandchildren, Wendy Grayson Kilby, her husband Rick and child Megan Wells; Robert Grayson and wife Pamela, and children Bethany and Steven; Lori Grayson Robinson and husband Bernie, and children Brittany (and husband Robert Curtis and child Cooper), Kayla and Justin; Steve Kistler and wife Lisa, and children Lee and Mason; Mike Kistler and wife Lori, and child Seth. She is also survived by a number of other relatives and close friends.
Florence was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and cousin who was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all.
The family would like to offer special thanks to “Banks” Wilkerson, and also to all those at Oakland Living Center who have provided care to Florence this last year.
Arrangements are provided by Crowe’s Mortuary. A graveside service at Shiloh Baptist Church will be held on Sunday at 2:00PM with the family meeting friends from 2:30PM to 4:00PM after the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
