Condolence From: M David Minnick
Condolence: I was a fraternity brother of John at the Beta House at the University of Michigan in the 60's. I cannot think of a memory of him that does not involve him smiling or laughing. He was an upbeat person who brighten any room he entered and proved the mood of anyone with whom he spoke. When he became a surgeon, I could think of no finer calling for him. To help those with serious medical conditions requiring surgery would bring him great satisfaction. His personality and caring for people would give his patients a positive experience in their recovery. We had a reunion of a number of our fraternity brothers txt John hosted at his beautiful home on Lake Lure. He was the perfect host and the same affable person we had know in our college years. Riding around the lake on his boat and eating at the local restaurant made it clear that many people knew him and liked him. It would be difficult not to like John Skudlerick. I could not help but think what a wonderful match it had to be forDr. John to help so many people in a community that would know and appreciate him. It was my great privilege to have known John over all these years. He added joy to my life in many ways. I am glad that he was well aware of how much his fraternity brother friends loved him and cared about him. I hope all of his family, friends and relatives appreciate what an outstanding person John was. His was a life well lived. He was a credit to his Beta Theta Pi fraternity, his beloved University of Michigan and the medical profession that he served so well. He may be gone from this world but he will be long remembered and missed which is the greatest legacy anyone can leave. Rest in Peace.

Condolence: With deepest sadness we learned of John's passing. We wish to send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. John and I grew up together in a simpler time in Coldwater MI. We attended school together from 1st grad through high school graduation and were dorm roommates in our freshman year at the University of Michigan. Growing up we spent summers riding our bikes, running through the neighborhood and heading home when the street lights came on. Sports were a big part of our lives. Along with our "posse" of friends and classmates we were always playing baseball, football or basketball. As we grew older, hunting and fishing became a big part of our lives. John was a consummate leader and he was our class President and Captain of our football & basketball teams. He had an enormous influence on my life as well as others, always giving encouragement and solid advice if he felt it was needed. John could have chosen any career but chose to be of service and save people's lives. I know that he was also very strong in his faith and dedicated to his community. I will forever miss my "brother". May he rest in Peace, may he be free.

Condolence: There are no words to express the sorrow in my heart for your family. I was so very sad when I heard the news. Memories of the Skudlarick family and all the good times we shared while in Rutherforton are treasured memories. John was a very special human being and touched so many lives both in and out of the hospital and all are better for having known him. May the sun warm you-the moon restore you-the stars light your path and the Universe bring you strength and peace. With Love Mari-Angie-Dylan

Condolence: It is such a sad day when we lose such a wonderful person who along his way, helped so many thousands of people. I remember as a nurse his presence on the unit, serious, funny, kind. I received a picture as a gift from him one time and it still hangs in my living room. More important to me now, such great memories of John. God bless you and keep you, his family. He is sorely missed.

Condolence: 😓 Back in 1985 at a young age of 19 and a college student, Dr. Skudlarick went over and beyond his duty as a doctor and saved my life! I went to Rutherford hospital to have a bleeding mole looked at. I was told by my attending doctor to "Oh just have the nurse at The university health center look at it when you get back to Western" By the grace of God, Dr. Skudlarick just happened to be passing down the hallway as my doctor was leaving. Less than ten minutes later, this doctor walks in the room, exams me and immediately numbs me for surgical removal of this mole. It was skin cancer! His "urgency" has guided me to be aware of my body and skin cancer for my entire life! Thanks to him, I knew to take any mole change seriously. At the age of 42, I was dianosed with melanoma. My beloved grandmother was taken away from us by melanoma. At the age of 48 and being aware of whats going on with my body, I was diagnosed with a brain stem glioma. It was catch early. In many ways, I credit him for giving me the urgency to be proactive in my healthcare even when he was not my attending doctor. RIP and thank you Dr. Skudlarick!

Condolence: I was so fortunate to work with Dr. Skudlarick at Norris Biggs Clinic from 1988-1990 and transfer over to Rutherford Surgical in 1990 with him, Drs. Haden and Terry as there Practice Administrator. I was so blessed to work under these 3 incredible surgeons til 2003 when I left to county. Such a great doctor, employer, friend and supporter. I never forget one of my duties as Practice Administrator was to help him clean gutters at RSA Lol! Always a professional helping any patient night and day and always came to work with a smile on his face. So many fond memories that will forever I will have. Prayers and thoughts for Cathy, Josh, Chad, Hope and all grandchildren he loved and so proud of. Our loss of a great surgeon and friend but Heaven gained an angel. I will not be able to attend memorial services but each of you will be in my prayers and thoughts.

Condolence: John is the reason I am not a veterinarian. I rounded with him and watched surgery when I was a freshman in college. He was so inspiring I switched my major to premed and have been a vascular surgeon for 20 years. I did a vascular fellowship at Vanderbilt 15 years after John was there and they all remembered him and spoke very highly of him. Rutherford county (my boyhood home) was lucky to have such a highly trained surgeon that really cared about his patients well being. R Mark Hoyle md dallas Texas

Condolence: He operated on my mother many years ago but unfortunately was not able to make her well. She didn't live long after the surgery but she seemed to almost develop a crush on him and so looked forward to their visits. We teased her about it. He was so kind and thoughtful and our family so appreciated the care he gave her. Rest in peace John...a life well lived.

Condolence: Condolences to the whole Skudlarick family. Such great memories growing up in the back yards of Waterman Ave. and Clay St. - playing sand lot football & baseball, home made hot rods, huts, bicycles, and trying to fix anything and everything. And then St. Charles sports- football especially, the co-captain trapping guards ( John & Sam ) leading the way. Great Times. John was a such an outstanding friend and person. Unfortunately, we missed John's doctoring career, but as we heard so many times, "He is one great surgeon". RIP John

Condolence: Many, many wonderful memories of my favorite cousin. We had so much fun as children and so loved going to "Grandpa John's" house to play with all of Grandpa's many instruments! So happy that we were able to meet up again a couple of years ago and also to meet his Cathy, and for him to meet my Jim. He, indeed, was such a good and kind man. I will miss him so very much.
