Obituary for Charles Eugene "Charlie" Whitaker

Charles Eugene "Charlie" Whitaker
Charles Eugene “Charlie” Whitaker was called home by the Lord on Sunday morning, August 27, 2017 following a long struggle of declining health.
Charlie “Whit” owned and operated Whit’s Gulf/ Whit’s BP, Whit’s Used Cars and Whit’s Bank of Spindale for forty five years. He was the lifelong resident of Rutherford County and a member of Spindale United Methodist Church. Whit never met a stranger and dearly loved his community. Our belief was that he knew everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. Whitaker and Cora May Whitaker; one brother, Dwight Whitaker and Sister Mildred Manor and his beloved wife, Annette Cash Whitaker. To help Annette’s memory live on in the community, The Whitaker Family gave a donation that helped fund the building of Hospice of Rutherford County’s Annette Cash Whitaker Center of Living.

Left to cherish and honor his memory is daughter Debbie Dempsey and husband Chip of Charlotte, NC; sons Doug Whitaker and wife Debbie of Campobello, S.C. and Mark Whitaker of Bristol, TN; one granddaughter, Stacy Kale and grandsons Brent Whitaker, Michael Whitaker, Tyler Whitaker, Dillon Whitaker and Dakota Whitaker. Also Whit has five great granddaughters and seven great grandsons.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the entire staff at White Oak Manor of Rutherfordton, N.C for all their love and care that Mr. Whit received during these past three years. Services will be held at Spindale United Methodist Church on Saturday September 2nd at 11:00 am with the family receiving friends at 10 am. Burial will take place at Piedmont Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, PO Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043, White Oak Manor 181 Oscar Justice Road Rutherfordton, NC 28139 or Spindale United Methodist Church 185 Mill Street Spindale, NC 28160.
