Obituary for Jack Lewis Flack

Jack Lewis  Flack
Mr. Jack Lewis Flack, age 95, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 17, 2016.
Born in Union Mills, NC, Jack will be remembered for his love of family, his tireless commitment to his business, Spindale Tire, and service to his community.

An active and dependable member of Spindale United Methodist Church, he was a loyal member of the Wesley Sunday School Class, where in earlier years, he had taught. It was through his church activities that he became active in the “Lunch Buddy” program at Spindale Elementary School.
As a young man, Jack served as a volunteer with the Spindale Fire Department. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and Rotarian.

After graduating from Alexander School in Union Mills, he soon joined the U.S. Army serving his country during WWII as a sergeant with the Second Armored Division. Jack participated in military action in Northern Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France and Belgium. He was involved in the fighting at St. Lo and other actions during the Battle of the Bulge and received a number of medals including the Bronze Star.
Jack was a charming storyteller who enjoyed entertaining visitors at his home or office and will be remembered fondly by family and numerous friends.

Jack was the son of the late Roscoe C. Flack, Sr. and Hattie Lovelace Flack and the widower of Thelma Edwards Flack to whom he was married 70 years. In addition to his parents and wife he was also preceded by one brother, Roscoe C. Flack, Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Katherine and Joe Justice, Nancy and Gilmer Edwards and Leonard Yelton.

He is survived by one son Ken and wife Lucy of Rutherfordton, NC; one daughter Kathy Flack Cabaniss of Spindale, NC; grandchildren Katelyn Cabaniss, John L. Flack, Patrick Flack and wife Jamie, great grandson Jameson; sister-in-law Naomi Edwards Yelton and a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held 11 AM Wednesday December 21, 2016 at Spindale United Methodist Church 381 Mill Street, Spindale, NC with Rev. Ross O’Neal officiating. The family will receive friends in the family life center immediately following the service. A private burial will be held at Eternal Hills Memorial Park at a later time.
