He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation in 1985.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Ruth; a son, Jeff, and wife, Terri; two grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Amine of Charlotte, and Christopher George and wife Amanda of Fallbrook, California; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joanne McComas. His grandchildren and great-grands were the light of his life.

George was pre-deceased by his mother and father, E.H. and Sally Price, and six sisters and brothers.

A memorial service will be held at Pea Ridge Baptist Church on Saturday, October 15, at 2 p.m., with a private service for the disposition of ashes to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills or Pea Ridge Baptist Church.
