Obituary for Diane Goodwin (Dyes)

Edna Diane Goodwin, aged 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2016. Raised in Milledgeville, Georgia, Diane was born in Macon to the late Mildred Joiner Hodges and Oscar James Dyes on October 24, 1949.

In 2005, Diane married her soul mate Roger Goodwin, and upon retirement they moved to Lake Lure, North Carolina from Overland Park, Kansas. She had been a dedicated and hardworking employee of Sears, primarily in Macon, Georgia, for over 27 years where she had worked her way up into management while raising three daughters from her first husband, Walter Bruce Hunnicutt. She had also lived in Navarre and Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where she met Roger in 1995.

A loving mother, grandmother, and wife, Diane doted on her grandchildren. She devoted time as Food Service Coordinator of Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach and also served on the Board of Directors. Prior to that she volunteered at Rutherford County Hospice and also served in the capacities of Secretary and President of the Lake Lure Lions Club. She was a bold and courageous woman who had true compassion for others and the causes she supported. An avid reader, she was a member of a local book club and was extremely well-read and self-educated. She also loved nature, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren and her dogs, Georgia Brown and Arlo Guthrie.

Diane is survived by her husband Roger Goodwin, daughters Terri Lynn Hunnicutt, Stacy Hunnicutt Heath (Michael), and Tiffany Carla Hunnicutt, grandchildren Owen and Ellery Heath, sister Vickie Johnson (Ricky), brothers Wayne Samples (Mary Ann) and Michael Hodges (Angelita), and six nieces and nephews. Words cannot express how much we will all miss her. She will live forever in our hearts, and we love her deeply. May she rest in peace.
