Obituary for Ruth Kurkendall (Elliott)
Virginia Ruth Kurkendall, age 79, of Rutherfordton passed away Friday, July 15 at the Hospice House in Forest City. She is the daughter of the late Edgar and Estelle Elliott. Ruth retired from the Rutherford County School System as a lunchroom worker in 2002. She was active in the Spencer Baptist Church, the Rutherford Senior Center, and an ICC Red Bowtie Volunteer.
Ruth leaves behind her husband of 36 years, Dan Kurkendall, sons Gary Wright of Murphy, NC, Larry and Joy Wright of Jubail, Saudi Arabia, Stephen and Rebekah Wright of Franklin, NC, stepsons Daniel Kurkendall, Phillip Kurkendall, grandchildren Jonathan and Amanda Wright, Joseph and Jessica Wright, Mathew Wright, Justin and Chelsie Bailey, three great grandchildren, and a brother Edgar Elliott, Jr. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 22 years, Gene Wright and a son Mark Wright.
Ruth was a petite woman, but there is nothing small about the impact that she had on her family and friends. In life she was in a constant state of motion. She was a whirlwind, never stopping, or slowing down. All of her family and friends will miss Ruth dearly. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Spencer Baptist Church in Spindale. Dr. Bruce Caldwell, Dr. Larry Gregg, and CS Wright will officiate. Internment will take place at the Green Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
