Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Thomas Mathis can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thomas William “Bill” Mathis, 84, of Rutherfordton, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Jack and Maude Sisk Mathis, and the last of eleven children. Bill was a member of Second Baptist Church, a US Army Korean veteran, and retired from the maintenance department of Duke Energy.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Sandra Armstrong and husband Danny of Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Morgan Armstrong, Matt Powell and Tori Powell; special friend, Marie Ingle; special caregiver Rita Agnell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Sims Mathis and son Mickey Powell.

Memorial services will be held 11AM Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Stephenson officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 191 Green Street, Rutherfordton, NC 28139
