John C. Calhoun, age 88, of 102 Fallen Oaks Lane Rutherfordton passed away Wednesday January 21, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. John was a native of Avondale, NC and the son of the late Louis Tillman and Ellie Mae Shephard Calhoun, he was a farmer and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons Steve and Johnnie Calhoun; brothers Washington, Ed, Jack and Clyde Calhoun; sisters Willie Mills, Annas Silvers, Velvia Jenkins, Edith Stanger, Betty Calhoun and Martha Calhoun and half brothers B.D. and Burl Calhoun.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Kathy (David) Gothard of Sevierville, TN., Joy (Ronnie) Huntley of Hendersonville, Lisa Melton of Shelby; granddaughters Desiree Haulk and Danielle Melton of Shelby; great grandchildren Devonia Haulk, Janae Haulk and Eli Melton of Shelby; brother Claude Calhoun of Gastonia and sisters Frances Short of Cleo, MI. and Sarah Bell of Kings Mt. NC. and a trusted family friend Ernie Holland of Shelby.
A celebration for the life of John C. Calhoun will be held at 3 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Crowe’s Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 2-3 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
