Georgianna Elizabeth Hudson Smart, 92, widow of the late Marvin “Jack” Smart of Forest City, died Monday January 19, 2015 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Mary Lou Freeman Hudson and sister to the late Joseph Hicks Hudson. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Georgianna was a graduate of Mount Vernon School, the last charter member of the Mount Vernon Community Center, a 50 plus year member of the Mount Vernon Home Demonstration Club, served 28 years as the financial secretary for Mount Vernon Baptist Church, taught Training Union and Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Arie Logan Circle and was the oldest living woman in the church. She was formerly employed by Stonecutter Mill.
Georgianna was married to her late husband Marvin “Jack” Smart for 64 years and to this union was born two daughters, Mary Ann Waters of Forest City and Sharon Buchanan of Rutherfordton; also left to cherish her memory are grandsons Chris Waters of Union Mills, Shea Waters of Rutherfordton, Matt Buchanan of Cullowhee and Chuck Buchanan of Norfolk, VA; four great grandchildren; sister, Lucille Hutchins of Rutherfordton; special friend Gladys Henderson of Forest City.
Funeral services will be held 3PM Saturday, January 24 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Whitlow and Dr. Scott Courtney officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1PM until 2:45 prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church Paving Fund 2676 Hudlow Rd Forest City, NC 28043
