Durward, “Dude” Miller Taylor, Jr., 77, of Rutherfordton passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014. Dude was born in Lafayette, IN to the late Durward Miller Taylor, Sr. and Marjorie Corwin Taylor. Dude served two tours in Vietnam as a Marine Sergeant and was awarded two purple hearts. He served his Country as an active Marine for 15 years and an additional 11 and half years with the Army Reserves. Dude was an active member of the Marine Corp. League, The American Legion, The VFW and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kathryn Taylor, children Vicki Taylor Ledbetter(Rick) of Spindale, NC, Shawn Taylor(Janice) of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Kevin Taylor(LoAnn) of Trevor WI, and Lisa Gray(Marilyn) of Seattle, WA, siblings; Sandra Edmondson of Jeffersonville, IN, and Jim Taylor of Spindale, NC, grandchildren; Aaron, Tyler, and Taylor Ledbetter, Amanda Sponenberg, Rebecca, Sarah, Kevin Jr., Melissa and Christopher Taylor, Danielle and Ben Mayer, Jenna Merlock and Maxwell T Gray, sister-in-laws; Diane Gann of McHenry, IL, Judy Thomas of Escondido, CA, and Linda Glascott(Bob) of McHenry, IL, nieces and nephews; David Edmondson, Jr., Tammy Lewis, Patrick and Shelby Taylor, Billy Gann, Kelly Schepe, Kathryn Chitka, Kristen Green, and Bobby Glascott, 5 great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. In addition to his family Dude leaves behind many close friends.
A visitation will be held from 4-6PM at Crowe’s Mortuary on Friday, October 31, 2014 with a Rosary beginning at 6PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Burke and Deacon Andy Cilone officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Rutherford County Honor Guard immediately following the Funeral Mass.
