Obituary for James Alexander Quinton

James Alexander  Quinton
James Alexander Quinton, age 84, of Forest City, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his home. A native of Cleveland County, but living most of his life in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late George and Amanda Worley Quinton. James was retired from NCDOT with 30 years service and was a charter member of Main Street Baptist Church. He loved God, gardening, and singing gospel music. In his younger days he enjoyed teaching his five children to sing and took his children to sing in many of the churches in Rutherford County.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Evelyn Whiteside Quinton of the home; two sons, Billy Quinton and wife Marsha of Raleigh and Johnny Quinton and wife Sandy of Spartanburg; three daughters, Irene Lett and husband Steve of Forest City, Ginny Tallent and husband Ralph of Forest City and Pat St. Clair and husband Eddie of Forest City; ten grandchildren, six step grandchildren, four great grandchildren and twelve step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Paul Quinton; five sisters, Ruth Burns, Mirth Street, Geneva Street, Maggie Ensley, and Georgia Young, and one great grandchild, Brad Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, May 31 at Main Street Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Brewer officiating. Mr. Quinton will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in Eternal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 30 from 6 until 8 PM at Crowe’s Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Main Street Baptist Church, 327 E. Main Street, Spindale, NC 28160.
